Effect of Magnetic Field on the Surface of Neutron Stars

چکیده

Abstract The effects of strong magnetic fields on the surface of neutron stars are investigated after taking into account the anomalous magnetic moments of nucleons. Energy spectra and wave functions for protons and neutrons in a uniform magnetic field are provided. The equation of state for low density matter is calculated in a Fermi gas model. The surface magnetic field around 10G has no obvious effect on the equation of state itself, but changes pressure at low densities obviously due to the contribution of the energy density from the magnetic field. Alternatively, the surface magnetic field leads to a strong spin polarization of protons at low densities.

Different‎ Magnetic Field ‎Distributions‎ in Deformed Neutron Stars‎

‎In this work, we review the formalism which would allow us to model magnetically deformed neutron stars. We study the effect of different magnetic field configurations on the equation of state (EoS) and ‎the ‎structure of such stars. ‎For this aim‎, the EoS of magnetars is acquired by using the lowest order constraint variational (LOCV) method ‎‎and ‎employing‎ the AV18 potential‎.‎...

Matter and Radiation in Superstrong Magnetic Fields and Thermal Emission from Neutron Stars

Thermal surface emissions have now been detected from more than a dozen isolated neutron stars, including radio pulsars, radioquiet neutron stars and magnetars. These detections can potentially provide important information on the interior physics, magnetic fields, and surface composition of neutron stars. Understanding the properties of matter and radiative transfer in strong magnetic fields i...

Joule Heating in Neutron Stars under Strong Gravitation

Considering Joule heating caused by the dissipation of the magnetic field in the neutron star crust to be an efficient mechanism in maintaining a relatively high surface temperature in very old neutron stars, the role of general relativity is investigated. It is found that, although the effect of space-time curvature produced by the intense gravitational field of the star slows down the decay r...

2D Cooling of Magnetized Neutron Stars

Context. Many thermally emitting, isolated neutron stars have magnetic fields that are larger than 1013 G. A realistic cooling model that includes the presence of high magnetic fields should be reconsidered. Aims. We investigate the effects of an anisotropic temperature distribution and Joule heating on the cooling of magnetized neutron stars. Methods. The 2D heat transfer equation with anisotr...

Neutron superfluidity in strongly magnetic interiors of neutron stars and its effect on thermal evolution

The possibility of a neutron m = 2–superfluid in the interior of neutron stars is investigated. This pairing state is energetically favoured in strong magnetic fields (H ∼ 10 − 10 G). Because of the node in the angulardependent energy gap along the field direction the neutrino emissivity is only suppressed polynomially as function in T/Tc instead of exponentially, as it is obtained for a nodele...
